Abstract

South Asia being a significant region from geo-strategic point of view always remained the area of interest for major external powers. The two major powers of South Asia i.e. Pakistan and India due to their traditional rivalry provide ground to the major powers to get engage in the region which is indirectly either maintaining or disturbing the balance of power in the region between Pakistan and India. Changing circumstances gave rise to convergence or divergence of interests between different states at different time intervals. In current scenario, India is more inclined towards United States and Pakistan more inclined towards China. The study aims to discuss the conflict of India and Pakistan, their due role in power balancing, role of major powers in balance of power and factors responsible for balance of power in South Asian region. The research is done under qualitative method in which data is collected mainly through secondary sources. The study concluded that there is balance of power between Pakistan and India in the long run but the changing circumstances and role of external major powers have contributed to either maintain or disturb this balance for a shorter period of time which made it a dynamic process.
